Funding for Visiting Researchers
A Visiting Researcher is usually an academic who has requested or is
asked to come to the University for a certain period of time to perform
research. The position is usually not salaried.
All Visiting Researchers should sign an appropriate visitors agreement (arranged through the host department). Please see our Visiting Researchers Agreements page for more information.

Please remember that you should liaise with your Departmental Administrator when costing and preparing a grant application and that all applications for external research funding must first be approved by the relevant Head of Department and then (except for applications for less than £20k with no associated staff costs) endorsed on behalf of the University by Research Services, before they can be submitted to the sponsor.
Please submit grant applications to Research Services at least 5 working days before the sponsor’s deadline.

Browse workgroup pages
Workgroup pages contain saved searches and saved folders of selected funding opportunities. Workgroups exist for each division and for some departments, research groups or theme.
A selection of funding opportunities relevant to hosting visits has already been set-up on each of the divisional workgroup homepages (and some sub-workgroup homepages).
It is worth noting that UK researchers wishing to undertake a short fellowship/research placement could also undertake this as part of a small research grant, fellowship, or research leave scheme (externally or internally funded by their institution), so it is worth exploring these options as well. Please always check the sponsors' eligibility guidelines for guidance.
Please note: not all opportunities for Visiting Researchers can be found on ResearchProfessional.com, as their database is set-up to automatically filter out any opportunities that cannot be held by UK universities.
