Research Contracts

Research Services is responsible for negotiating and authorising research-related contracts with external parties. Research-related contracts are not confined to sponsored research agreements, but also cover such things as the exchange of confidential information, datasets, research tools or materials plus engaging expert non University employees as consultants on an externally funded research project

Contracts are entered into with a wide range of external bodies including other universities, companies, government departments and agencies, charities and individuals.

If you are familiar with the process and know what sort of contract is required for your project, please use the menu links on the left to access the appropriate forms and web tools. These will tell you what information we need, and will help us arrange a contract as speedily as possible.

If you are unsure of what is required, or wish to speak to a contracts specialist, please get in touch with us.

If you wish to know more about research-related contract issues, please see the FAQ section.

Please involve Research Services at as early a stage as possible where a research-related contract is required. Informal or verbal agreements with external bodies made before you contact us may make it difficult to obtain acceptable terms and conditions, or an appropriate price. Please see our guidance on pricing research contracts with industry.

University policy for University staff to undertake consulting is not managed by Research Services but is listed here for ease for reference under Consulting Activity.
