Q3: Arrangements

Question: How does your department establish and maintain management control?
Information: The roles of people with specific health and safety responsibilities must be clearly defined within the department’s ‘Statement of Safety Organisation’.  Those who are responsible should be able to discharge their duties effectively.  There should be systems in place to ensure they are also accountable where duties have not been fulfilled.  Where departments share resources with other departments or organisations the local arrangements should be agreed and defined to ensure control measures are again implemented.  Similarly, when contractors are engaged or other organisations are involved in the management of health and safety then their arrangements should be checked to ensure the University’s standards are upheld.
