Q4: Co-Operation

Question: How does your department consult with its members and encourage participation in developing health and safety procedures?
Information: There should be systems in place to consult with staff and student representatives.  Formal meetings should exist, such as the Departmental Safety Advisory Committee, to ensure these representatives are able to discuss hazards, risks, control measures, policy statements, incident reports, and inspections.  Representatives should be suitably informed so as to actively contribute to this discussion.  All other staff should be encouraged to participate in the identification of hazards, risks and control measures.  This should be done by engaging them in the risk assessment process and through other forums such as group meetings, training programmes and staff development.
