Memo 1/13 : Safety Training Syllabus - Hilary Term 2013

The Safety Office has arranged a number of training courses for Hilary Term. The training programme is attached for your information and indicative course information may be viewed via the links at the following url: https://secure.admin.ox.ac.uk/safety/

The Safety Office operates an online course booking system. The majority of University staff do have access to a computer, and online applications are the preferred mechanism for booking courses. In exceptional circumstances we are able to accept email or telephone bookings from individuals or their managers, but most of these requests will be referred back to the booking information on the Safety Office website.

To reserve a place on one of the safety courses, applicants will need their Oxford single sign-on account (Webauth login and password) before following the relevant booking link for the course of interest.

Please note that places must now also be booked for all radiation safety training courses.

Individuals with a University card are eligible for an account and further information and relevant card application forms are available at: http://www.admin.ox.ac.uk/card/

Further information about the University's web authentication system, Webauth, and how to go about obtaining login information is available from Computing Services via their helpdesk or their website.

If, having booked a place, applicants are unable to attend their requested course, they must cancel their booking via the online link so that their place can be released and offered to another trainee. Courses are generally provided free of charge to University staff and students. However, departments will be charged a £30 penalty fee if booked trainees fail to turn up on the day, or in the event of late cancellations, where the place cannot be filled. Trainees are required to sign the attendance register circulated at each course and failure to do so may be interpreted as a failure to attend the session. Trainees are also asked to attend at the start time indicated, and late arrivals may be charged the ‘no show’ fee.

Departments are reminded that safety training is a legislative requirement and they are asked to review their training needs and ensure that relevant individuals attend the appropriate course(s). Supervisors are also reminded that these centrally provided courses may satisfy only basic training requirements and that they are responsible for ensuring that any additional or specific on-the-job training is delivered, as necessary, on an ongoing basis.
