Local Oxford business community gather at Examination Schools for B4 event

On the 4th of July, the Examination Schools were very pleased to host an informal networking event for 200 local Oxfordshire business people with guest speaker Sir Nicholas Jackson. Sir Nicholas is the grandson of the Examination Schools architect, Sir Thomas Jackson, who was one of the most distinguished architects of his generation.
As members of B4, a local networking group, the Examination Schools provided a less familiar venue for this month’s event. Senior Event Marketing Manager, Kay Hogg commented “It was a great opportunity to show off the building to those within the local business community - many of those attending had never been inside the building and were unaware of the size, space and services we have to offer. Sir Nicholas is known internationally as an organ recitalist, harpsichordist and composer, and we were delighted that he shared a few anecdotes about his grandfather’s work at the Examination Schools”.
Built in the 1880s The Examination Schools is a Grade II listed historic venue offering meeting space for over 1,500 people. It offers 17 different sized meeting rooms which can accommodate between 20 to 440 people per room. For further details visit www.examschools.ox.ac.uk.

Date added: Friday 15 March, 2013

As a Grade 1 listed building with seating capacity for up to 900 people, the Sheldonian Theatre is a unique historical venue that can be hired for a range of functions. Described as one of the “architectural jewels of Oxford” the Theatre was designed by Sir Christopher Wren and was purpose built for University ceremonial occasions.

A sister venue of the Examination Schools, these two buildings provide a magnificent backdrop for large conferences. An opening or closing ceremony/talk can be held at the Theatre while the main conference and associated catering can be hosted at the Examination Schools. Only a 5 minute walk from each other through Oxford's city centre streets, both buildings offer a truly unique “Oxford experience”.
