| Make-A-Wish foundation hosts 'feel good' charity volunteer event |
There are currently 20,000 children and young people living in the UK with a life-threatening illness. Established in 1986, the Make-A-Wish Foundation UK has granted 6,500 magical wishes to children and young people. One of the driving forces behind the charity is people, in particular their volunteers. As a way of thanking their valued volunteers and celebrating their 25th anniversary, Make-A-Wish held this month a spectacular volunteer celebration at the Schools. Over 200 volunteers attended a day's event which included workshops, training sessions, a reward and recognition presentation and celebratory drinks. Jilly Thompson, Volunteer Communications Co-ordinator said "I was delighted to be able to organise this event, we have many volunteers who give a lot of time and energies to support us, so it's a great way of being able to thank them. The Examination Schools provided a sophisticated back drop for the event". For information on volunteering opportunities contact Jilly on T: 01276 405047 or E: jilly.thompson@makeawish.org.uk

| Examination Schools wins conservation award |
In its 34th year of running, the Oxford Preservation Trust's Annual Awards scheme recognises conservation projects which have made a significant contribution to the conservation and improvement of the built or natural environment in and around Oxford. The University entered the restoration of the outside of the Examination Schools as a conservation project and won a prestigous letter of commendation for their work. A team of over 25 people were involved in cleaning and repairing the main facade, revealing the beautiful carvings which were hidden behind layers of dirt. These include an ornate frieze of leaves and parrot like birds and skillfully carved panels illustrating the Board of Examiners at work and a University of Oxford degree ceremony.
