University buildings short listed for a conservation award

The University of Oxford has been shortlisted for a building conservation award in the Oxford Preservation Trust’s annual awards scheme. The short listing is in the category of ‘building conservation’ and applies to two of the University’s flagship buildings: the Examination Schools and the Sheldonian Theatre. Both buildings are important venues for academic and ceremonial purposes.

New look for old high street favourite

The Examination Schools on the High Street, a Victorian Grade II listed building owned by the University of Oxford, has been restored to its former glory after repair and extensive cleaning work. Years of pollution from traffic on the High Street caused the beautiful limestone exterior to be buried under a layer of black soot, hiding one of Oxford’s architectural gems.
