Regulations for Green College


Council Regulations 9 of 2002

Made by Council on 26 June 2002

1. Green College shall be a society:

(1) through which persons who are graduates of other universities (or in the opinion of the governing body possess comparable qualifications) and who are not members of any college, society, Permanent Private Hall, or other institution designated by Council by regulation as being permitted to present candidates for matriculation may be admitted as members of the University; and

(2) to which graduates of the University who are members of another society or of a college, Permanent Private Hall, or other designated institution may migrate, subject to the Regulations on Readmission and Migration.

2. Graduate members of another society or of any college, hall, or other designated institution may be admitted, with the approval of their own college, society, hall, or other designated institution as junior associate members of Green College.

3. The Governing Body of Green College shall consist of the Warden and Fellows, and shall have full powers (subject to the provisions of these regulations) to do what may be necessary to administer Green College as a society for graduate men and women, subject to the following conditions:

(1) it shall submit a report annually to Council;

(2) it shall submit estimates to Council in Hilary Term in respect of the ensuing financial year, and shall satisfy Council that no charge will fall on university funds except such as may be provided by Council.

4. The governing body may admit to membership of Green College:

(1) students who have been admitted to work for the Second Examination for the Degree of Bachelor of Medicine;

(2) students desiring to work for research degrees of the University;

(3) other graduate students desiring to pursue academic work in Oxford;

(4) other persons at the discretion of the governing body.

5. The Warden of Green College shall be appointed by Council, after it has considered any recommendations which the governing body may submit, on such terms and conditions as Council shall determine.

6. The officers of Green College shall be appointed by the governing body on such terms and conditions as it may determine, subject to the approval of Council.

7. The governing body may elect suitably qualified persons as Fellows of Green College, on terms and conditions determined by the governing body and approved by Council, including the holders of university appointments who are entitled to fellowships under the provisions of any statute or regulation, or who will become so entitled if their university appointments are confirmed to retiring age.

8. The governing body may elect to Professorial Fellowships at the college, on terms approved by Council, university professors, university readers, and holders of other university offices which are declared by any university statute or regulation to qualify the holder for a Professorial Fellowship.
