Chinese Ministry of Education-University of Oxford Scholarships

Overview

This scheme aims to provide Chinese students who demonstrate both academic excellence and leadership potential the opportunity to study for a DPhil at the University of Oxford.

Nationality

Mainland China

Other criteria

1) You must have graduated from one of the 211 project universities.

2) You must demonstrate academic excellence

3) You must have the potential to become a leader in your field, a decision-maker and opinion former within China

Level of study

DPhil only

Subject

All subjects, although preference will be given to research linked to one of the Ministry's priority areas.

Duration

Awards are made for the full duration of a student's fee liability for the agreed course (subject to an annual renewal process based on a review of their academic progress and their funding position)

Type of student

Students accepted to start a DPhil course at Oxford in 2010/11.
Those who are currently studying at Oxford and progressing from a Master's to a DPhil are not eligible

Value

Awards cover University and college fees and provide a grant for living expenses (£11,500 p/a in 2009/10) and one return airfare China-UK-China

Number

Up to six awards will be available in 2010/11

Application procedure     

1) Apply at the same time as you apply to Oxford by selecting Chinese Ministry of Education-University of Oxford Scholarships in the University of Oxford Scholarships section of the University's graduate application form

2) You must also apply separately to the China Scholarship Council for this scholarship. Application information and forms are available at the CSC website. Please visit the CSC website to read more about the CSC application process.

Your application can only be considered if you apply to both Oxford and the China Scholarship Council. At the time of applying, you must enclose your offer letter from Oxford (if available) or written confirmation from Oxford that you have applied by the deadline. This can be obtained by emailing student.funding@admin.ox.ac.uk; you must include your name, nationality, course applied for at Oxford, your graduating university in China and research area

Closing date

Application Deadline 2 for admission to Oxford. This is 8 January 2010 for Medical Sciences and Philosophy students; 22 January 2010 for all other subjects

The deadline for application to the China Scholarship Council will be confirmed shortly. It is expected to be in March 2010

Results

We expect to notify successful applicants in early June 2010.

Due to the volume of applications received, we are unable to contact unsuccessful applicants individually or provide feedback on their applications.

Other information

Scholars are expected to return to China for a minimum of two years after graduation from Oxford. For details of the China Scholarship Council's standard conditions please visit the CSC website.
