Director of Alumni Relations: Ms Christine Fairchild
PA to the Director of Alumni Relations: Ms Helen Wilkinson
The University Alumni Office works to establish and enhance a continuing relationship between the University and its alumni. The aim is to provide all Oxonians, regardless of their college or subject affiliations, with an alumni experience commensurate with their world-class education and to offer a varied programme of benefits, events and communications to help them to keep in touch and involved with the University. As part of this work, the office supports the Oxford University Society, the alumni association of the University, which aims to bring together alumni and encourage and coordinate their support for the University, other than that concerned with fundraising.
The Director of Alumni Relations and Secretary to the Oxford University Society reports to the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Development and External Affairs) and works closely with the Board of the Oxford University Society, which comprises alumni and University members, as well as with a wide range of staff throughout the University and its colleges.
Profile of the Director of Alumni Relations
Christine Fairchild graduated from Connecticut College in 1979 with a BA in Asian Studies, and spent her early career at the Harvard Art Museums, where she worked in membership, development, special events and public education. In 1988, she moved to Harvard Business School, where she worked in Alumni Relations until 2003, the last ten years of which she served as Director of the department. From 2003 to 2010, she served as Executive Director of External Relations at Harvard Business School, leading a department of 80 people. The role entailed fundraising (raising over $50M annually in new gifts and pledges and completing a $600M capital campaign), alumni relations, alumni communications, corporate relations, donor relations/stewardship, data and gift processing, prospect research and special events.
She took up her appointment at Oxford in March 2011, succeeding Lady Nancy Kenny, who retired in September 2010.
