Head of Childcare Services: Ms Louise Edwards
The University has been providing work place nursery provision since 1992 for children aged between 4 months and 5 years. This provision is available to eligible staff and student parents and has played a significant role in supporting parents to continue with their academic or professional careers at the University.
Childcare Services is responsible for managing this provision on behalf of the University and comprises: four University nurseries; eight private workplace nurseries; two staff tax saving schemes; an advisory service and holiday playschemes.
Childcare Services undertakes business and policy development and implementation in areas relevant to family-friendly benefits, and actively supports Oxford’s research students who specialise in Early Years education and child development.
The Head of Childcare Services works closely with the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Personnel and Equality) and reports to the Acting Director of Personnel and Related Services and the University’s Childcare Steering Group. The Head of Childcare Services interacts with a wide range of staff across the collegiate University and other stakeholders including three corporate nursery partners, Personnel Services and the Department of Education.
Profile of the Head of Childcare Services
Louise joined the University in October 2008. Her early career was in banking, which led to an interest in business development. She joined the primary education sector in 1998 as a School Business Manager, and supported a consortium of foundation schools in Buckinghamshire as an educational business consultant.
