The Equality and Diversity Unit (EDU) works to progress the University’s equality objectives. It has a responsibility to promote equality and diversity for both staff and students, and undertakes policy development and implementation in relation to this.

The Head of the Unit reports to the Director of Human Resources and interacts with a wide range of staff across the collegiate University, in particular working closely with the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Personnel and Equality), and those in Personnel Services and the Academic Administration Division.

Profile of the Head of the Equality and Diversity Unit

Kevin Coutinho started his career in the voluntary sector at the Windsor Fellowship, a national race equality charity established in the aftermath of the 1981 riots. He currently chairs the charity’s Board of Trustees and works with organisations to enhance Windsor Fellows’ education, citizenship and employability. He has worked in the higher education sector since 2008, specialising in equality and diversity policy and practice (Disability, Gender, Gender Identity, Race, Religion/Belief and Sexual Orientation) at the University of Cambridge and at Birkbeck, University of London. Whilst at Cambridge, he was elected to the University’s Board of Scrutiny, serving as Secretary in 2012/13.

Kevin is a graduate of Cardiff University (LL.B. Law), SOAS (M.A. International Studies and Diplomacy), I.E. Business School (Madrid) (International M.B.A.). He received an M.A. from the University of Cambridge in 2012.
