Skincare at work

ABC Skincare

Harsh soaps, frequent hand washing and certain chemicals can cause skin conditions. These potential skin problems can be reduced several ways by:

Avoiding direct contact with irritant substances, products, and wet work where this is sensible and practical. Wear gloves if necessary. Keep your skin clean; good hand washing and thorough drying techniques should be used.

Barrier  and emollient creams (e.g. Vaseline, Diprobase ) should be used frequently and regular changes of appropriately selected gloves.

Check hands regularly for the first signs of itchy, dry or red skin. Report any problems to your Departmental Safety Officer or the Occupational Health Service immediately. Early treatment of skin problems can prevent development of more significant and long standing problems.

Correct training and awareness in the use of chemicals or irritants that maybe used within your work area.

Glove Use

Powdered latex gloves should never be used in the workplace. Gloves should be changed after 3 hours of use because the barrier of either type of glove becomes compromised with extended use.
