Holder Building

Department of Engineering and Materials

The disabled access ramp to the Holder Building.

This building is partially accessible.  There is no accessible parking available on Banbury Road, so the closest accessible parking to the department is the public Blue Badge spaces on Keble Road, a 5 minute walk away.  However, it might be possible to book a parking space at the Thom Building, so please contact reception@eng.ox.ac.uk in advance to enquire.  There is a lift to all floors, and a café for the use of department members.  There are very few inaccessible areas, but some of the labs could prove tricky.

There is an accessible parking space and a couple of departmental parking spaces outside the building on Parks Road.  These spaces are shared with Engineering, and you do need a permit, so please enquire in advance by contacting Ashley Brown on ashley.brown@materials.ox.ac.uk or 01865 273756.

The entrance to the Holder building is down the ramp behind the parking space.  Although the ramp has a handrail on the right hand side, it’s quite steep, so please take care.  The entrance door is automatic, and operated by swipe card mechanism on the left hand side.  Turn left to reach the entrance lobby and main staircase.

There are two lifts in the building.  The lift by the entrance door provides level access to the tower offices.  The floors in the two parts of the building don’t match up, so for level access to the rest of the building, please use the main lift.  To get there, go down the long corridor leading from the entrance lobby.  The lift will be about half way down on your right hand side (opposite the toilets).  The lift is large, with tactile buttons and spoken information, but no braille.  The building uses a ‘level’ system, so the ground floor is Level 1, the first floor is Level 2 etc.
