There is a porter’s lodge in the lobby, prior to entering the library.

Once in the library:

The main library inquiry desk is directly in front of the turnstiles.

There is an additional library inquiry desk on the second floor.

There are two staircases located at either side of the rotunda. 

The stair wells are artificially lit and have black carpeting with black nosing.

There is a wooden railing following the centralised railings (left hand side as you ascend the stairs).

The doors within the Sackler Library are mostly wooden held on closing hinges often with windows at eye height creating a visual barrier. 

Caution should be exercised when using doors in popular areas.

Reading Rooms

Each floor is a rotunda, the central portion of the room is shelving with desk spaces adjacent to the exterior wall of the rotunda.

There is a clear and wide space (corridor) between desk space and library space.

Rolling stacks are situated on all floors.  Caution should exercised when moving stacks. 

In addition there are often floor obstacles such as step ladders and book trolleys that may present problems for mobility impaired and those with visual impairments.
