The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender + Advisory Group

The LGBT+  Advisory Group works with the EDU to highlight issues relating to LGBT+ staff and students in order to inform the development of University policy and practice in relation to LGBT+ staff and students and to facilitate consultation and the sharing of information with LGBT+ staff and students.

In conjunction with the EDU, the group also organise:

  • Hilary term: The annual LGBT History month lecture
  • Trinity term: A Panel Debate for Oxford Pride festival and the University Stall for Oxford Pride
  • Michaelmas term: The LGBT Staff Network Annual General Meeting.

Helen Charlesworth (Chair)

Job title: Head of Communications, Undergraduate Admissions and Outreach

Key responsibilities: Communications strategy for undergraduate admissions; providing information, advice and guidance to prospective undergraduate students on making their applications; producing the undergraduate prospectus and admissions website

Clara Barker (Vice Chair)

Identifies as: Trans-female - I started to medically and socially transition during my last post, going “full-time” prior to starting my current role at Oxford.

Pronouns: She/her

Job title: Technical laboratory manager for the Centre for Superconductivity, Materials.          

Key responsibilities: Run and maintain the operation of various deposition and materials characterisation machines including magnetron sputtering, PLD, MFM, XRD.              

Research experience: Following a BEng in electronic engineering, I worked for a company who made PECVD vacuum deposition systems. I then completed a PhD at Manchester Metropolitan University in material engineering, specialising in the deposition method of HiPIMS, followed by a visiting research post at Lappeenranta University, Finland working with ALD. The last four years I worked as a post-doc, again with HiPIMS deposition, at Empa in Switzerland.

Outside interests: Board games, climbing, music (making, watching and listening), biking, camping, sci fi and reading (books and graphic novels!)

Marilou Polymeropoulou (Link Officer)

Marilou will hold the position of Link Officer till April 2020

Hannah Boschen (Link Officer)

Identifies as: Lesbian

Pronouns: She/her

Job title: Professional Development Officer, Oxford Learning Institute         

Key responsibilities: Deliver training for a wide range of staff primarily around management and leadership and personal effectiveness.

Other Oxford experience: First job at Oxford was as a library assistant in the Radcliffe Science Library a very long time ago!

Outside interests: All things nature and wildlife, photography and mindfulness.

Job title: Admissions Coordinator, St Hugh’s College

Key responsibilities: I coordinate the admissions process for graduate and undergraduate applications to Oxford at St Hugh’s, and I sit on the College’s Equality Committee.

Other Oxford experience: Admissions & Outreach Officer (2015-2018) and Administrative Officer (2014-2015) at St Hugh’s College. Graduate Trainee at the Bodleian Social Science Library (2013-2014).

Outside interests: Philosophy and music (woodwind and voice). I am also Secretary to the Burford School Association (an alumni network).

Luke will hold the position of Link Officer till August 2019
