Council Approves Extension for Tinbergen

Planning permission has been granted for new Chemistry teaching laboratories at the University’s Tinbergen Building.

Planning permission has been granted for new chemistry teaching laboratories at the University’s Tinbergen Building.

Based in the Science Area, the 1970s Tinbergen Building currently houses the departments of Zoology and Experimental Psychology and teaching laboratories for the Department of Biochemistry.

The planning approval will allow the creation of a two-storey extension on the southern end of the building to provide space for the new teaching labs.

The University is also seeking to replace some of the existing ‘pods’ that provide the stepped profile of the building, and to add new pods to create further accommodation, to more closely reflect the original design concept of the building. The University is also taking the opportunity to undertake internal refurbishment.

The project will be delivered over a number of phases with the first due for completion in Summer 2017.
