Summertown House shortlisted for award

The major refurbishment of the University’s Summertown House graduate accommodation is a regional finalist in the Civic Trust Awards.

The site in Banbury Road, North Oxford, was visited by the award assessors at the end of September and will now go forward to the National Panel for second tier consideration. If successful the scheme will go through to the final round.

The Civic Trust Awards scheme was established in 1959 to recognise the very best in architecture, design, planning, landscape and public art. Awards are given to projects that demonstrate high quality architecture or design, have demonstrated sustainability, are accessible to all users and have made a positive cultural, social or economic contribution to the local community.

The project involved a reorganisation the flat interiors to create more space and a sense of connectivity; bringing all facilities up to modern standards; improve accessibility and reducing the energy use and carbon footprint of the building. All of this whilst celebrating the most novel and successful features of the original building.
