Weston Library Wins Civic Trust Award

The renovated Weston Library has won a Civic Trust Award for outstanding architecture, planning and design.

The Weston bagged one of the awards for the South East region, taking its place alongside 16 other victorious projects. Most are in the UK, but a few are from further afield – Ireland, Qatar and Denmark. The winners were announced at an awards ceremony in Winchester on Friday 10 March.

Designed by architect WilkinsonEyre, the Weston renovation project worked with the original 1930s design by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott while bringing the building into the 21st century. It created modern, high-quality research facilities, adding new features including a digital media centre, exhibition space, seminar rooms and a lecture theatre.

This is just the latest of several awards for which the Weston has been nominated – for example, last year it was shortlisted for the prestigious RIBA Stirling Prize for best new building in the UK, alongside the Blavatnik School of Government.
