Ruskin School of Art shortlisted for architectural award

The Ruskin School of Art’s new building on Bullingdon Road has made it through the first stage of assessment in the 2018 Civic Trust Awards.

It will now go forward to a national panel as one of 140 regional finalists, where it will be considered for either a national or international Civic Trust Award or a commendation.

The results of the second phase will be announced in mid-December, ahead of an awards ceremony in March next year.

Construction of the building was managed by the Capital Projects team within Estates Services. It was designed by architects Spratley Studios and already won a RIBA South award in 2016 after opening the previous October.

The building sits on a residential street of Victorian terraces and its design, colour palette and materials are designed to reflect its setting. But it also features innovations such as smart glass windows facing the street that enable the Ruskin to create a gallery space by projecting images from the inside.
