RIBA South shortlisting for Beecroft Building

The Beecroft Building has been shortlisted for a RIBA South Award 2019, it was announced this week.

The £50m building provides world-leading facilities for the Physics department’s research and teaching; it was completed last year after a major construction project managed by the Capital Projects team within Estates Services.

Run by the Royal Institute of British Architects, the RIBA awards are among the most prestigious accolades that a new addition to the built environment can attain. Also shortlisted in Oxford this year are the Hands Building In Mansfield College, Brasenose College’s Greenland Library, and the Westgate Centre.

All the finalists will now be assessed by a regional jury, with the winners announced at an event on 23 May. After that, the shortlist for the RIBA National Awards for the UK’s finest new buildings will be drawn up from the winners of the regional awards, with the winners announced in June. Finally the winners of the National Awards will form the basis of the shortlist for the RIBA Stirling Prize for the year’s best new building, which will be announced in October.
