Old Road kitchen gets five-star rating after surprise Environmental Health inspection

Environmental Health inspectors have given the Compass production kitchen in the Innovation Building at Old Road Campus the thumbs up, awarding it a five-star food safety rating after a surprise visit this morning.

The kitchen is extremely busy, and this week alone prepared food for hospitality showcases, a large VIP function and vegan pop-ups in University cafes. ‘With so much food moving in and out, we still have managed to display the right levels of health and safety, and food safety in such a busy environment,’ said Group Executive Chef James Larkins. ‘Thank you to the teams for their hard work and dedication.’

Environmental Health Officers (EHOs) are responsible for inspecting food businesses to ensure that they are complying with food safety law. EHOs can enter and inspect food premises unannounced at any reasonable time and on any day of the week.
