Repairs and maintenance

Estates Services is responsible for the upkeep of the fabric of buildings – including walls, roofs and windows – across the functional estate and for the electrical and mechanical systems within buildings. The division of responsibility for repairs and maintenance between the occupying department and Estates Services is set out in the Estates Standing Orders with further details set out in the guide to standing orders.

Work is supervised by the Building Services team – comprising electrical and mechanical services – and the Conservation & Buildings team.

Planned and routine work

Managed by our teams of surveyors, engineers and building inspectors and informed by condition surveys and regular inspections. Reactive work, including emergency repairs, is managed through the FacilityNet Helpdesk Helpdesk.

Much of the work itself is carried out by the Direct Labour Organisation, our in-house team of tradesmen, who also provide a range of non-maintenance services.

Specialist contractors are employed where appropriate and in line with preferred supplier agreements. For advice and guidance relating to flooring or drainage preferred suppliers, email the Conservation & Buildings team.

Building or refurbishments projects

Projects valued below £100,000 are managed by the Conservation & Buildings team. All initial enquiries - regardless of value - should be directed to
