It is clear from section 2 that the legislation surrounding transport of dangerous goods is onerous, highly complex and difficult to easily interpret. There may also be insurance considerations associated with such transport, especially where private or hired vehicles are used.  It is usually preferable to find a means to avoid all these difficulties, e.g. by arranging for suppliers to deliver dangerous goods to the desired destination. If departments cannot avoid transporting dangerous goods then further advice will be required. The University has appointed a Dangerous Goods Safety Adviser (DGSA) to provide competent advice on compliance with dangerous goods legislation. The Safety Office should be consulted and will obtain advice from the DGSA where necessary.
