Display Screen Equipment (DSE) Assessors' Training


Who should attend?


Individuals who have been appointed as DSE assessors and those requiring refresher training.




Course Details

The University Policy on Display Screen Equipment (S8/09) requires heads of departments to appoint assessors and have them trained by the University. In conjunction with the Occupational Health Service, the Safety Office is offering training course for display screen assessors. A mock display screen and desk arrangement will be included in the programme to provide delegates with the opportunity to work through practical exercises. Departments are asked to review their arrangements for DSE assessment, identify any training requirements and ensure that anyone needing training attends this session.

The indicative course content is shown for information:

  • DSE legal requirements
  • Definition of 'User'
  • Entitlement to eyesight testing and arrangements
  • Anthropometrics / ergonomics
  • Health conditions related to poor use of DSE
  • The workstation - good/bad practice
  • The DSE assessment checklist
  • Giving feedback and recommendations to 'users'
  • Practical session
